It was a hot day at Fire Burst, and the Steaming River only made it hotter... An odd source of water really, as in most areas it would scorch your tongue and leave you in sheer agony if you dared touch it. Perhaps it would look harmless enough, trickling through the land, if it wasn't for the heat it gave off, and the steam that flowed through the air around it... No "normal" plants lived in this river, and it could be said that no normal creature drank from the water either. For the creature that padded toward it was definitely not normal, despite her appearance.
Yes, the Guardian Relaeth walked at a fair pace toward her river, claws clicking as she stepped over to the water. Her multi-colored coat blew around a little in the wind, and her head was carried high. Eyes the normal hue for a wolf, golden, and her back bare of wings, she appeared to be just your average wolf. She wasn't showing her true self, of course, with her dark feathery wings and blazing eyes, but if you took a long look at her, the disguise would seem to almost fade. There was something in those intelligent gold eyes...yet it was so far away, jut out of one's grasp. What was it? Power, maybe? Who knew...
The she-wolf, these thoughts not crossing her mind, reached the riverbank and let her head drop until it almost touched the water. Her tongue became exposed as she slowly lapped up the liquid, burning hot as it was, as if there was nothing wrong with it, as if it was just ordinary cool, refreshing water. Yet it wasn't... Swallowing and licking her lips, Relaeth stepped back, having had her fill, and slowly sat on her haunches. Eyes closing luxuriously, she breathed deeply, calmly, letting the peacefulness wash over her. Though she loved adventure and wasn't at her best when all was quiet, she occasionally enjoyed the time when she could just sit and think without one worry.
She sat still for some time, thinking, before her eyes snapped open like a venus fly trap's jaws closing over its prey, her trail of thought having ended and other thoughts coming to her mind. Her Protector....where was she? Serenity. Her thoughtland drifted only a moment before the Volcan Guardian excused the pondering with a slight flick of her tail. She was sure that the other wolfess would be back soon enough... For now, she had other things to worry about. For one, she needed new pack members.
